This Privacy Policy explains how Miranda Huang (NiHao 开发者) ("we", "the developer", "the app") collects, uses, stores, and shares your personal information when you use the NiHao Chinese learning app.
Last updated: 2026-05-31. By continuing to use the app, you agree to this policy.
Account info: email, display name, country/region, target HSK level, avatar URL (optional).
Learning data: completed lessons, answer history, vocabulary mastery, streak days, daily study minutes goal.
Device info: device model, OS version, app version, device language, push notification token (with your consent).
AI chat content: text of conversations with Capy AI for learning feedback. We do not store your voice input (handled by system TTS).
Feedback & support: text, optional phone number, and screenshots you submit via the in-app feedback form.
Provide service: account management, personalized lesson recommendations, progress tracking, subscription management.
Improve the product: anonymized statistical analysis (no identity info) to understand feature usage and find bugs.
Communication: send study reminders (if enabled), subscription notices, security alerts.
Customer support: reply to your feedback and questions.
Legal compliance: respond to valid legal requests.
We share your information only in the following cases:
• Firebase (Google) · authentication, push notifications
• Aliyun OSS (Singapore region) · avatar image + learning audio/video media storage
• Apple App Store / Google Play · subscription transactions (only the data needed)
• Anthropic Claude · AI chat content processing (current session only · not retained long-term)
• Qwen3-ASR · speech-to-text transcription (per-request only · not retained · not linked to account)
We do NOT sell your personal information, and we do NOT use third-party advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs.
Under applicable laws (PDPL / PIPL / GDPR / CCPA), you have the right to:
• Access: view your data at any time in "Profile > Personal info"
• Correct: edit display name, avatar, learning preferences
• Delete: tap "Delete account" in "Profile" to permanently delete all your data
• Export: contact nihaoapp.help@gmail.com to request a copy of your data (GDPR/CCPA right)
• Withdraw consent: disable push notifications, opt out of marketing email
• Complain: file a complaint with your local data protection authority
Account info: kept until you actively delete the account.
Learning data: same lifecycle as the account.
Feedback emails: auto-archived after 30 days.
Crash logs: auto-purged after 90 days.
After account deletion, all data (including backups) is fully wiped within 30 days.
We use industry-standard security measures:
• Full HTTPS encryption in transit
• Sensitive credentials (refresh tokens) stored encrypted in device Keychain / Keystore
• Database encrypted at rest
• Strict access controls
• Regular security audits
We cannot guarantee 100% security · please also keep your password safe.
NiHao serves users aged 16 and over only. At signup you must tick the checkbox "I confirm I am 16 years of age or older" to create an account.
We do not knowingly collect information from users under 16. If we discover a sub-16 account, we delete it immediately. Parents / guardians who discover a minor using NiHao without permission, please contact nihaoapp.help@gmail.com.
Our servers are primarily hosted in Asia (Aliyun Singapore region). Your data may be processed in:
• Singapore (primary storage)
• USA (Firebase / Anthropic)
• Your country (local app cache)
All cross-border transfers follow GDPR Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) and other applicable frameworks.
The app caches locally on your device:
• Identity tokens (for auto-login)
• UI language preference
• Onboarding seen flag
• Learning content cache (offline access)
Uninstalling the app clears all local cache.
This app does not use third-party advertising, does not perform cross-app / cross-site tracking, and does not access device advertising identifiers (IDFA / GAID).
As a result, iOS does not display Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt and no related setting is required from you.
If we introduce tracking-based features (e.g. attribution analytics) in a future version, we will update this policy first, notify you, and request your explicit consent via the ATT prompt at that time.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via in-app notification, and the "Last updated" date at the top will be refreshed.
Continued use of the app means you accept the updated policy.
